Two Game Home Weekend- Fri. & Sat. vs LaCrosse

The Ice Hawks are coming off their best weekend of the season, winning games vs the Whalers and the Freeze. This weekend the Hawks host their neighbors to the East, the LaCrosse Freeze. The Ice Hawks and Freeze had a two game home and away games last Saturday and Sunday. This weekend’s two games mark the 4th successive games between the two teams.

The LaCrosse Freeze are in second place in the Central Division. The Freeze are 13-16-2 with 28 points. Coach Hodnicki ‘s squad is ready to avenge the home game loss to the Hawks last weekend.  Freeze players to watch- leading scorers; #21 Sam Dabrowski (15g+19a-34pts); #3 JP Eykyn (12g+9a-21pts); #27 Kadin Machusak (5g+15a-20pts); #12 Danny Toycen (7g+12a-19pts). Central Star of the Week: Bailey Schmitz – Rochester Ice Hawks

Earning his first shutout of the season in a three-game weekend performance was Rochester’s goaltender Bailey Schmitz. The 18-year-old from Red Lake Falls, MN stopped 90 shots in 179+ minutes this weekend. “Bailey saw three games in three days against divisional rivals. This weekend, the team earned their first two-win weekend this season, along with their first shut-out this season. Bailey posted a .923, .900, and 1.00 respectively through all three games this weekend; he was hands down a game changer. Bailey gave his team a momentum boost at the right time, and because of his play, the team was able to compete and pick up four points,” said Head Coach Eric Hofmann.

Bailey is the second Ice Hawks to be selected Star of the Week. In December, Spencer Hadacek was also honored. Congratulations!

Injuries- Several players came out of last weekend with injuries. The most serious of the injuries was to Forward Zach Curry. Curry had injuries to his knee, shoulder and a possible concussion. He is questionable for this weekend. Ryley Cook is day to day with a lower body injury. Ethan Sievek suffered a hand injury but is probable for this weekend.. The three players are being evaluated at the Mayo Sports Medicine Center .
Willie Meyer was hoping to return to the ice this weekend. Willie was injured and last played in September. The staff at the Sports Medicine Center, have advised him that he was still not quite ready to return to action.. He is participating in contact drills. At this point, his return is ‘week to week’.

After this weekend there are only three regular season games remaining. One game next weekend then one game in February and another in March.
