WILLMAR — Luke Murphy made 45 saves and Lake Powell scored a power-play goal 33 seconds into overtime to lift the Rochester Ice Hawks to a 3-2 North American 3 Hockey League victory on Saturday.
Willmar took a penalty with 52 seconds left in the third period and Rochester took advantage as its power play time ticked down in OT. Ryan Stokes and Luke Steele assisted on the game winner.
The win pulls the Hawks (6-31-0 overall) within one point of Wausau for the final playoff spot in the NA3HL Central Division with 10 games to go in the regular season.
Willmar drops to 18-17-3.
All three Ice Hawks goals came on power plays. TJ Albano and Justin Gibbons scores for Rochester in the second period. Their goals were sandwiched around goals by Willmar’s Eli Slagter and Blake Shuck.
Steele had two assists, while Josh Hoffman, Nick DuLong and Brandon Pahl had one each.
The win is Rochester’s second in six games after not having won since Oct. 20.
The Ice Hawks play host to Willmar at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
