The Rochester Ice Hawks were left feeling blue on their annual Pink the Rink Night at the Rochester Recreation Center on Friday.
Alexandria spoiled the Ice Hawks’ party, shutting out Rochester 5-0 in its final home game of the North American 3 Hockey League regular season.
The Ice Hawks wore special pink jerseys that were auctioned off during the game to raise money for breast cancer research and local non-profit group Join the Journey. Money was also raised through T-shirt sales and a 50/50 raffle.
On the ice, Alexandria scored twice in each of the first two periods to put the game away.
The Blizzard outshot the Ice Hawks 44-18, with Rochester goalie Bailey Schmitz making 39 saves in the loss.
Caleb Anderson scored twice for Alexandria (30-12-2 overall), while Riley Meyer, Brenden Payne and Riley Scanlon scored once each.
Former Ice Hawks goalie Tyler Thompson stopped all 18 shots he saw to earn the victory for the Blizzard.
Rochester (9-36-1) closes its regular season next Friday and Saturday at the Wisconsin Whalers.
