Ice Hawks, Bruins shut down

BLAINE — Bailey Schmitz made 33 saves, but the Rochester Ice Hawks couldn’t muster any offense in a 4-0 North American 3 Hockey League loss to the Point Mallard Ducks on the opening day of the NA3HL Showcase at the Schwan Super Rink.

Point Mallard (Decatur, Ala.) led just 1-0 after one period, then it scored three times in the second to pull away for the victory.

Jake Cox scored twice, while Brandon Knopf and Cody Pisciola scored once each for the Ducks. Gary Glassman made 19 saves to record the shutout for Point Mallard.

The Ice Hawks (3-20-1 overall) face the West Michigan Wolves at 3:30 p.m. today, then wrap up Showcase play against the Cape Cod Islanders at 10:05 a.m. Sunday.
