CHICAGO — The Rochester Ice Hawks earned a weekend sweep and a playoff spot all in one game.
The Ice Hawks put 69 shots on goal in a 6-4 North American 3 Hockey League victory against the Chicago Bulldogs on Saturday, a victory that eliminated the Bulldogs from the playoffs and gave Rochester the final spot in the postseason from the Central Division.
Rochester (9-34-1 overall) built a 4-1 lead after one period and held off a late push by the Bulldogs (1-40-1).
Dylan Boysen and Colby Decarlo led the Ice Hawks with two goals and an assist each. Ethan Sievek and Charles Bill had one goal and one assist apiece. Alex Tarr had two assists, while Sam Bjellum, Spencer Hadacek, Joe Puglise and Michael Smits had one each.
Rochester outshot the Bulldogs 69-21.
Bradley Brown made 17 saves to earn his second victory in as many starts for Rochester.
The Ice Hawks play host to Alexandria at 7:05 p.m. Friday in their final regular-season home game. Rochester closes its regular season at the Wisconsin Whalers on March 10 and 11.
