ICE HAWKS TAKEN DOWN BY STEEL

The Rochester Ice Hawks played a good first period Saturday, but New Ulm took control of a North American 3 Hockey League game from that point on, beating the Hawks 6-1 at the Rochester Recreation Center.

Drew Westphal scored 5:50 into the game for Rochester, but Steel goalie Ryan Kenny (30 saves) shut the Ice Hawks down the rest of the game.

New Ulm scored two goals in the second and three in the third. Former Ice Hawk and Rochester Mayo defenseman Dylan Boysen had one assist for New Ulm in its victory.

Matthew Shupert and Noah Roach each had an assist for Rochester, while goalie Drew Schenkenberg made 22 saves.

On Sunday, the Ice Hawks suffered a 7-0 loss to the La Crosse Freeze.

The Freeze led 3-0 after the first period and scored twice in both the second and third periods.

La Crosse held a 52-28 advantage in shots on goal.

Drew Schenkenberg took the loss in net. He had 25 saves on 30 shots. Tait Carlson entered the game in the second period. He had 20 saves on 22 shots.

The Ice Hawks, who dropped to 4-10-0-0, return to action Friday at home against North Iowa (13-0-2-1).
