Ice Hawks Get Win No. 2 of the Season

WAUSAU, Wis. — Five Rochester Ice Hawks scored a goal each, nine Ice Hawks had at least one point and Drew Schenkenberg was sharp in goal, making 32 saves to lead Rochester to its second North American 3 Hockey League victory of the season on Friday, 5-2 at Wausau.

Rochester improves to 2-4-0 overall, while Wausau falls to 0-1-0.

The score was tied 1-1 after one period and 2-2 after two periods. Colby Decarlo and Josh Hoffman scored for Rochester.

The Ice Hawks then added three goals in the third. Mayo graduate Austyn Renn scored the game winner 4:53 into the third, Zach Curry added an insurance goal four minutes later and Lourdes’ Cort Buck scored an unassisted empty-net goal with 8 seconds remaining.

Rochester plays at Wausau again tonight at 7:05 p.m.

The RiverWolves are the last NA3HL team to start their season; the two-game set this weekend against the Ice Hawks are the season-opening contests for the team that was sold in the offseason and moved from Chicago to Wausau.
