Ice Hawks Top Whalers Put Together Complete Effort in Win

The Ice Hawks (5-24-1 overall) never trailed in Friday’s game.

  Ethan Sievek scored the only goal of the opening period, giving Rochester a 1-0 lead 4:43 into the game.

The Whalers (11-15-4) tied it at 14:07 of the second on a Drew Steines goal, but Rochester answered four minutes later when Andrew Gates scored his second goal of the season.

Alex Tarr made it 3-1 Ice Hawks at the 5:32 mark of the third, then Wisconsin’s Jake Faulkner and Rochester’s Skylar Watt traded goals midway through the final period.

 Watt added two assists for a three-point game. Michael Smits added two assists, while Tarr, Colin Hass and Austyn Renn had one each.

Bailey Schmitz made 24 saves in the victory for the Ice Hawks, who play host to La Crosse at 7:05 p.m. tonight.
