MASON CITY, IOWA — The Rochester Ice Hawks continued to show their improvement Friday night, pushing the North Iowa Bulls into the game’s final minutes.

The Ice Hawks and Bulls were tied 3-all heading into the final frame. But the Bulls scored 11:55 into the third to escape with a 4-3 victory.

The Bulls are one of the NA3HL’s top teams, sporting a 28-8-0-1 record. That puts North Iowa in first place in the NA3HL’s Central Division; it already has clinched a division title. The Ice Hawks dropped to 7-31-0-1.

North Iowa got on the board first Friday, but Charles Bill answered back with a tally late in the first frame. Spencer Hadacek assisted on Bill’s goal.

North Iowa went back in front briefly in the second, but the Ice Hawks scored two straight to pull in front. Dylan Boysen netted a power-play tally, and Bill’s second goal gave the Ice Hawks a short-lived 3-2 lead.

The Bulls tied it at 3-all five minutes after Bill’s goal, and with just two seconds remaining in the second.

Drew Schenkenberg suffered the loss in goal for the Ice Hawks. He recorded 31 saves on 35 shots. The Bulls outshot the Ice Hawks 35-25.

The Ice Hawks head home for a 7:05 game tonight at the Rochester Recreation Center in a rematch against North Iowa.
