Ice Hawks shut down by Willmar

The Rochester Ice Hawks hung with the Willmar Warhawks for most of two periods, but Rochester’s offense couldn’t get going in a 7-0 loss at the Rochester Recreation Center on Friday.

Rochester goalie Sawyer Schmidt held the Ice Hawks in the game, making 20 saves in each of the first two periods. He finished with 44 saves on 48 shots in 44:50 of playing time. Bailey Schmitz relieved him in the third and stopped 12 of 15 shots over the final 15:10.

Willmar was 2-for-6 on the power play while Rochester was 0-for-5.

Seven players scored once each for Willmar, which outshot Rochester 63-23 in the game. Warhawks goalie Hayden Funk recorded the shutout. Brody Surette led the way offensively with a goal and two assists.

 Rochester (0-7-0 overall) plays a home-and-home series with the Breezy Point North Stars next weekend. The teams meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Breezy Point, then again Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Rec Center.
