Ice Hawks suffer road setback

LA CROSSE, Wis. — After a long holiday break, the Rochester Ice Hawks returned to action Friday night at Green Island Ice Arena.

The Ice Hawks played well, but the La Crosse Freeze escaped with a 3-2 victory.

The Freeze led 2-1 after the first period, and it remained 2-1 until the third. The Freeze made it 3-1 15:28 into the third, but the Ice Hawks made it a one-goal game again just 17 seconds later. However, Rochester never was able to tie it up.

Spencer Hadacek scored the first Ice Hawks' tally, and Trey McMillen netted the second on the power play. Colby DeCarlo and Griffen Buck assisted on McMillen's third-period goal.

La Crosse finished with a 43-24 edge in shots on goal.

Zach Mains suffered the loss in goal for the Ice Hawks. He stopped 40 of 43 shots.

The Ice Hawks dropped to 5-13-0. They host the Freeze (15-7-0) at 7:05 p.m. tonight.
