The Ice Hawks take on the National Champion North Iowa Bulls in an away and home series this weekend.  On Sunday they travel to LaCrosse to play the Freeze in a 3:30 pm game.

The National Champion Bulls will provide a stern test for our young and banged up Hawks.  The Bulls are in 1st place in the Central Division (12-2) and are coming off a huge offensive weekend vs the Chicago Bulldogs.  Coach Todd Sanden has the reigning Silver Cup Champs running on all cylinders.  The Hawks will be underdogs to the Bulls team which is among the best  in the nation.  Bulls fans travel well and the Hawks will need enthusiastic support from the Hawks Nation on Saturdaynight!

Bulls players to watch-  Leading scorers:  #9 Owen Larson (16g, 21a-37pts) and #27 Connor Clemons (14g, 17a-31pts)  The Bulls rotate their goalies:  #33 Brady Meyers (1.60gaa, .927 Save%) and #1 Josh Brown (1.98gaa, .922 Save%)

On Saturday Night the Ice Hawks will be host to a Bachelorette Party (“Last Sail Before The Veil”) for Allison Glynn. She is to be married on New  Year’s! 12/31/16.  Her friend Abbie  Gwilt  arranged the event with the Ice Hawks.  Her maids want her to know that they  love her, wish her the best and are so honored to be part of her special day.   The bride and her friends will participate in the Sled Race at the first intermission.  Allison is a big hockey fan: The Hawks are pleased to be part of her big day.

Ice Hawks Notes-

Backup Goalie, Tyler Thompson was traded to Alexandria Blizzard for a #5 pick in next summer’s NA3HL’s draft.  Tyler was looking for greater playing time than the Hawks could offer.  We wish Tyler well.

Despite their record,  goal tending has been a bright spot for the Ice Hawks.  Our goaltenders have played well even though the team is  often outmanned.

Injuries
No new injuries were reported after the Alexandria game.  This is the first  game this season in which  there was no new injury to a player.   Unfortunately, the Hawks have several ongoing injuries.  Forwards Charlie Bill (out  2-3 additional weeks) and Willie Meyer (expected return – mid December) are not available  as is defenseman Nick Wagner.  Sam Bjellum and  Johnny Zwarych  are  being reevaluated later in the week and are ‘possibles’ for this weekend.  Defenseman Andrew Gates returned to action vs Alexandria after an extended absence due to injury.  In addition, the flu bug made a visit to the team.  Several players/coaches were ill early in the week.  In Tuesday’s practice, only 9 skaters were able to participate

Other news
Michael Smitts will be unavailable until November 4th due to a league suspension as a result of play vs Breezy Point.  Breezy Point Head Coach Jon Jonasson was also assessed a Game Misconduct and fined by the League office due to his behavior in the last Breezy Point game at the Rec Center
