The second weekend of November features a rare three game weekend, an away and home series with the New Ulm Steel and a Sunday game in LaCrosse. On Friday the Hawks play in New Ulm and return for a Saturday night home game with the Whalers. The 3:30 Sunday afternoon game is in LaCrosse
Saturday Night’s Home Game Military Appreciation Game
Free admission for Active Duty, Reservists, and Veterans with proper identification.
This year’s Military Appreciation Game includes custom military jerseys, American Flag display outside the rink, Military Honor Guard and puck drop, and toy toss.
The custom game jerseys will be auctioned off to fans. The silent auction will take place during the game and winners will be announced with 10 min remaining in the 3rd period.
All funds raised from the custom military-themed jersey auction goes to the SE MN Youth Hockey Military Scholarship. This past year, 12 area athletes from military families received almost $4600 in scholarships.
The Steel are led by Coach Andrew Colb. Coach Colb enters his first season as head coach for the Steel after being an assistant coach for the 2016-17 season. The 4-4-2 10pts Steel are currently in 4th place in the West Division behind 3rd place Breezy Point. Former Ice Hawk and Rochester native #4 Dylan Boysen is currently playing for the Steel. Thus far this season defenseman Boysen has 2 assists for the Steel.

Ice Hawks News-
This weekend’s game mark the only three game weekend this season. The Hawks do play three games on three days (Sunday-Tuesday) at the NA3HL Showcase December 17-19th in Blaine,
This is the last weekend that MN HS hockey players can compete in NA3HL action and still play for their high school teams. The Hawks, Cort Buck (Lourdes) and Daytin Zimmerman-Fatis (Mankato East) return to their respective high school for their seasons. Both are eligible to return to the Hawks once their high school seasons are complete. Jackson Kranebell and Trevor Timm who are HS players will continue with the Ice Hawks for the remainder of the season.
Injury Update- Defenseman Trevor Witthus has missed several games due to a head injury. He is being evaluated/treated by the Mayo Sports Medicine Center staff and is unlikely to play this weekend. Fortunately, no new injuries were reported last weekend.
