Thanksgiving Week

Thanksgiving week begins with a game in Alexandria on Wednesday night then  return home for a two game FridaySaturday series with the  0-18 Chicago Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs who are in last place in the Central Division, are coached by Craig Sheperd.  Shepard previously coached Twin Cities Northern Lights in the Minnesota Jr. Hockey League.  Coach Shepard will have his team ready and eager to chalk up their first win of the season at the Rec. Center this weekend.

Bulldogs players to watch-Leading scorers; #25 Bryce Freel  2g,3a-5pts in 12 games; #17 Cody Gottfried 1g-4a-5pts; #16 Jake Hermann 3g,1a-4pt in 14 games and # 20 Jack Henneman 3g-1a-4pt in 5 games.  Goalie- 33 Joe Timmerman 13.56 gaa and ,812 Save %.

Ice Hawks News

The games this week will mark the Ice Hawks first games under head coach Eric Hofmann.  Practices leading up to the games this week have been upbeat and the team is slowly recovering from the injuries and illnesses that plagued them since the beginning of the season.  The Hawks seem poised to play their best hockey in the coming weeks.

Player News

Goalie Sawyer Schmidt has been traded to the St. Louis Jr. Blues in return for defenseman Joe Puglise.  Puglise who is from Wheaton, IL is pleased to be in Rochester and looks forward to the opportunity he will have to contribute.  Joe will be wearing #25.  The Ice Hawks also received goalie Brad Brown form the Euliss Jr. Stars in return for future considerations.  Brown who lives in Inver Grove Hts, MN began practice with the team on Monday. He will wear #1.

Johnny Zwarych is recovering from an upper body injury and will not be available to play this weekend.  Willie Meyer is still out until the end of December,  but has begun to ride the stationary bike with a walking cast on his ankle.   Charlie Bill  may be ready to go in one to two weeks if his rehab goes well.  He skated in practice for the first time on Monday.  Mayo Sports Medicine Staff will monitor his progress.  Both of Meyer and Bill’s return will really help the team significantly.

Other player news-
Forward Colin Hass will be unavailable for several games.  The Hawks continue to seek players who can help the team. They are in discussions to obtain two forwards by the Christmas break.

Ed Thiele joins Ice Hawks Staff

The Ice Hawks are pleased to introduce Ed Thiele.  Ed joins the Ice Hawks in the area of Marketing and Sales.  He completed an Associate Degree in Marketing and Business Administration from Baker College in Muskegon, Michigan.  A native of Muskegon and a lifelong hockey fan, he served in various business capacities with the Muskegon Lumberjacks Hockey Club.   His duties included marketing, promotions, game day operations, special events coordinating and merchandising. The Ice Hawks will be doing the’Toys For Tots’ Toy Toss again this season starting at Friday night’s game. This year, we only have 3 home games before Christamas to raise funds, so bring a few extra dollars for the kids! We will also be collecting new, unwrapped toys at all 3 games, November 25th, 26th, and December 3rd.  Last year, Toys For Tots collected nearly 24.000 Toys and delivered them to over 10,000 children across Southeast Minnesota.
