Alexandria scored the first two goals of the game and never trailed in a 6-2 North American 3 Hockey League victory against the Rochester Ice Hawks at the Rochester Recreation Center on Friday.
Logan Norman and Logan Nelson scored four-and-a-half minutes apart midway through the opening period to give Alexandria a 2-0 lead and they led the rest of the way.
Nick Paulson set up Dominik Bogdzuil at 13:22 of the opening period to pull the Ice Hawks within 2-1, but Alexandria pulled away with second-period goals from Aaron Ryback and Alec Seeger.
Two Rochester natives connected for the Ice Hawks' second goal, which made it a 4-2 game just 1:33 into the third period. JM grad Hunter Heightland set up former Lourdes standout Griffen Buck to trim Rochester's deficit to two.
But Alexandria responded again with power-play goals from Seeger and Nelson to close the game.
Alexandria (5-10-1 overall) outshot Rochester 57-17. Zach Mains made 51 saves for the Ice Hawks (5-11-0), Brey Effertz had 15 saves for Alexandria.
The teams meet again tonight at 7:10 p.m. at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria.
