Junior hockey: Ice Hawks break new ground, notch first NA3HL win

CHICAGO — Sam Nelson stopped nearly everything that came his way and six players scored at least once each for the Rochester Ice Hawks as they picked up their first victory in the North American 3 Hockey League.

The Ice Hawks were outshot 42-40, but Nelson made 40 saves to lift them to a 7-2 NA3HL victory against the Chicago Bulldogs on Friday.

Nelson carried the water for Rochester in the first two periods, stopping 15 shots in the first and 16 in the second.

The score was tied 1-1 after one, but the Ice Hawks scored three times in the second period and three more in the third to pull away.
