Junior hockey: Ice Hawks fall to defending champs

The Rochester Ice Hawks were unable to find the back of the net, suffering a 7-0 loss to the defending national champion North Iowa Bulls on Saturday at the Rochester Recreation Center.

The Ice Hawks dropped to 3-6-0 during their first season in the North American Tier 3 Hockey League. The Bulls improved to 9-0-1; they are on top of the NA3HL's Central Division.


Rochester managed just 15 shots on goal, including just four in the first and four in the third. The Bulls peppered the Ice Hawks with 50 shots.

Zach Mains took the loss in net, but he played well. He finished with 42 saves on 48 shots. Kyle Plantz played four minutes in net, allowing one goal on two shots.

Tommy Hall paced the Bulls with two goals.

Despite the loss, it was the Ice Hawks' most attended home game of the season with more than 1,200 fans.

The Ice Hawks return to action at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at home against Breezy Point.
