Nick Fatis to Step aside from Coaching Duties
Nick Fatis who is in his 20th year of coaching the Ice Hawks is turning over his coaching duties to Eric Hofmann. Eric will assume the head coaching responsibilities: the rest of the coaching staff remain intact.
Fatis has led the Ice Hawks to nine National Tournament appearances and four National third place finishes on his way to winning 580 games as the Ice Hawks Head Coach. He will assume expanded duties as Assistant General Manager for Hockey Operations and also will continue as a member of the team’s Board of Directors.
Fatis cited several reasons for his decision to step aside. This season’s team is off to a difficult start and can benefit from a fresh perspective. In addition, he cites his desire to take a break from the demands of coaching to attend to personal and family matters that require more of his time and energy. In his expanded role in Hockey Operations he will focus on player scouting/recruitment and will interface with the NA3HL League Office on player management issues.
While he is not ruling out the possibility coaching again in the future, he feels this is a time when a change can benefit the players, the organization as well as him personally.
The Ice Hawks are coming off a 3pt weekend and have eleven days until their next game. Taking his action at this time gives the team and coach Hofmann a chance to ‘reset’ as they enter the remainder of the season.
